Northgate Professional Center Signs New Pharmacy
SPRINGFIELD - The Apothecary Center, a 50-year-old independent pharmacy located on upper State Street in this city, is expanding to larger quarters at Northgate Professional Center, 1985 Main Street, and will open for business at its new site later this month.
A bulk purveyor of prescription drugs and medical supplies to area nursing homes and social service agencies, The Apothecary three years ago was purchased by two young pharmacists, Philip Goncalves of Wilbraham and Marcel Nunes of Ludlow.
Goncalves and Nunes, both in their early 30s, see their move to Northgate as an opportunity to expand their walk-in retail business, as well as better serve their traditional customer base with an expanded stock of medical products in the new 3,700 s.f. space.
"Free parking, easy access and more than three times the square footage than we have on State Street will allow us to grow for many years to come," Goncalves said.
According to Northgate owner Andrew M. Cohen, the center is now undergoing extensive exterior renovations, including façade improvements, enhanced lighting and new signage. He said the work reflects the decision to upgrade the 40-year-old strip center as Springfield's newest venue for medical and other professional offices.
Northgate's current tenants include Northgate Medical P.C., Northgate Dental Center, the U.S. Veterans' Center, Springfield Spine Center, H&R Block, Apex Healthcare, Tapestry Health Systems, Community Transportation and Western Mass Mortgage Experts.
