Modell's Premier Western Mass Store To Open at Century Shopping Center
Modell's Sporting Goods, the nation's oldest family-owned and operated retailer of athletic goods, apparel and footwear, will open its first Western Massachusetts store at West Springfield's Century Center.
The new store is scheduled to open in July, 2006, according to Andrew M. Cohen, owner of the 285,000 s.f. shopping center on Memorial Avenue.
Founded in 1889 with its first store located on Cortlandt Street in lower Manhattan, Modell's currently operates 128 stores throughout the Northeast, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, Virginia, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia. The chain also has four stores in Greater Boston.
Cohen said Modell's will occupy the 22,000 s.f. space to be vacated by Ocean State Job Lot at the end of January. The premises will be totally renovated for reoccupancy next summer, Cohen added.
Century Center, the oldest strip shopping center in Greater Springfield, is fully occupied. Tenants include TJ Maxx, Bob's Discount Furniture, Big Y, Priceless Kids, Auto Zone, Dot's, Pet Supplies Plus, Hollywood Video, Radio Shack, Casual Male, Strawberries and Dots.
