Andrew Cohen Named Jimmy Fund "Volunteer of the Year"

The Jimmy Fund Councils of New England recently hosted their annual Appreciation Night at the Players Club, Fenway Park. Andrew Cohen of East Longmeadow was honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award, and 15 council members received the Bob Cheyne Lifetime Achievement Award. Each award is given annually to council members to recognize their volunteer efforts on behalf of the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The Volunteer of the Year Award salutes a member who has been active for at least three years and has been an ardent supporter of the Jimmy FUnd and Dana-Farber. This year's recipient, Cohen, is a member of the Jimmy Fund Council of Western New England. He is immediate past president and has been on the Council for over 23 years. Cohen has served on several of the event committees, most recently as co-chair for Chefs for Jimmy, voted Valley Advocate's Best of 2008 Charity Event.
The Lifetime Achievement awards pay tribute to Bob Cheyne, a former member of the Greater Boston Jimmy Fund Council, who devoted his time to raising awareness of the Jimmy Fund. The award honors council members who have committed 10 or more years of service to the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute thorugh participation in the Jimmy Fund Councils of New England. THis year the award went to council members from Berkshire, Greater Boston, Rhode Island/Southeastern Mass and Western New England Councils.
Jimmy Fund Councils are groups of dedicated volunteers who act as ambassadors in their communities for the Jimmy Fund. The councils promote the mission of the Jimmy Fund and host fundraising events.
